When I first started, I couldn't even run to the end of my block! I made it my goal to just run a little bit further each time. Not too much time went by before I realized how much I loved the sport of running. I signed up for my first 5k in April 2009. I have loved watching my speed and distance increase as the years have gone by. 2012-Shamrock Run 15K 1:47 (injured)

| | Whew! Put a huge hill in about midway thru the run. Overall, a nice pace for having to stop and walk up the hill half way. 9:50 ave. | |
| | Up and at em' early. At the gym by 4:30 to do 45 minutes of weights and then a 3 mile run. Felt great. Oh how I love...well I hate the early wake up call....but how I love the coffee all by myself in the morning. It's a great time to get my chats in with God. |
| |
| | Tempo run this morning. The "fast" stretch about did me in. ;-) |
|
| | Weights for 45 minutes and then a nice 3 mile run on the TM. Started at a 9:30 pace and slowly bumped it up over the first mile. Ended my run at 8:15 pace! Whoo hoo--Haven't ever been that speedy! |
Saucony Mirage Miles: 3.00 |
| |
| | Started out with the intention of doing 10 miles, 3 miles at 9:30, 5 miles at 9:00 and the last 2 at 9:30. Sadly, I was sidelined at mile 6 with vein pain in my quad. I walked for a bit and limped thru the last 2 miles to the car. Average pace was 9:25 for the 8 mi. Not bad, but super frustrated that my mind, lungs and muscles are ready and the leg pain--which is a few years old now--says no. Dang. |
Saucony Mirage Miles: 8.00 |
| |
| | 35 minutes of weights and then a 3 mile run at a 9:26 pace. Added a big hill to help get ready for the Shamrock Run in 2 weeks!! |
Saucony Mirage Miles: 3.00 |
|
| | Started with ambitions of 7 miles. Leg hurt at 3 1/2 miles. Walked/ran at a snails pace home. So, so frustrating! Shamrock Run next Sunday is not looking good. :-(
|
Saucony Mirage Miles: 5.00 |
| |
| | Well, not a 9 mile run.....but a 9 mile bike ride. Can I log that here?! Feel like I should be tracking what I am doing even if it isn't a run--keeps me motivated! I also did 45 minutes of weights. Taking it easy this week with hopes of being able to complete Shamrock Run on Sunday. |

5 more miles on the bike. Still trying to rest the leg for the race on Sunday, but also get some cardio in. I also did 40 minutes of weights. Sadly, it is hurting tonight from my everyday activities. Dang it!!!! All I did was rode the bike, took my dog for a walk and weeded my yard. Hmmmm. Sunday is not looking schwell. :-(

| | Wow. Feeling oh so happy to have completed this race with the leg issues that have been plaguing me. It is was sllloowwww and steady on the hilly course. It was a pitiful pace but just so happy not to come home broken and unable to function. My goal was to complete this race without too much pain and I succeeded! Yippee! |

| | Felt a bit sluggish today and the right leg hurt quite a bit today. But oh so happy to have my run in today. Vein is being injected with sodium chloride on Tuesday---it is supposed to be quite painful and put me out of running for a while. :-( Hoping it is a long term fix to this stupid varicose vein issue I have dealt with for years. It is a long shot but an option to try before just taking the vein out. Say some prayers that it will work and not be too painful. I just wanna run with no leg pain.....is that too much to ask??!

| | First run in 10 days. The dr. restricted me to walking only for 2 weeks. He had me go for a "test run" after 10 days to see how the leg felt. Sadly, it hurt quite a bit and was oh-so achy last night. Not sure what to do next...... |
Saucony Mirage Miles: 3.07 |
| |
| | *SIGH* Another "test" run that was a bust. Attempting to run 3 miles....just 3 miles. Made it 1.5 and had to stop and walk because of the pain the leg. Ran another .75 and was walking home by the end. The leg is just not happy. Dr. follow up tomorrow morning.... |
Saucony Mirage Miles: 2.77 |

| | Another "trial run." Seemed like a looong 3 miles. 9:30 crappy pace. :-( |
Saucony Mirage Miles: 3.07 |

| | One meager mile. A test run to see how the leg is doing after injections on Monday. FELT GREAT!! I would've kept going but was simple out of time as I had already been at the gym for an hour doing weights. Sure hope this is the beginning of a new running plan! Yay!

S L O W run today. Just couldn't talk my body into going faster. Guess this means I'll be due for a wicked fast run this weekend. ;-)

| | TOUGH boot camp this morning with intervals--running laps in between the weights. Figured I did about a mile and a half. I was going to go run 3 mi after boot camp for my training but was simply too tired. I had a hard time getting thru all the workout at boot camp and was honestly wishing for gu. Weird. So no official run for me today but hoping it will make my 5 miler tomorrow be amazing. |
Saucony Mirage Miles: 1.50 |

| | Weird foot/ankle/heel issues! Been there for a while now. Took the weekend off with the hopes of it just needing rest. Wore my Mizuno's which are technically worn out but do have more support. Really just hoping it is a shoe issue since the Saucony's are the only time I strayed away from Mizunos. We will see...... |
|
| | Speed workout today. 400 x 5. My lungs felt like they were on fire! I know it will make me faster though, so I do love it. I have heard so many people say they think my heel pain is plantar fasciitis. I dismissed it because the pain wasn't on the bottom of my foot. However, I do fit every other symptom--most pain when crawling out of bed in the morning or after sitting for quite sometime or after standing all day (teaching). Any one have experience with this?? How do I fix it? I read to wear shoes with more cushion and stability so I dug my old Muzunos out of the closet. I also have been icing after each run. Ideas, thoughts, experiences welcome!
|
|
| | The run itself felt oh so good this morning! However, in logging this run 5 hours later, my foot is screaming! SNAP! What to do......what to do? Dr. appt is not until Sept 14, almost halfway thru my training. Just not sure how to proceed. The mind says YES, the body is saying eerrcchh!!! Grrrrr. |
| |
| | Well, after 9 weeks (!) of rest due to plantar fasciitis, I finally got clearance to run 1 mile today. The bonus: I got to run with my husband (not a runner dude). He has been a trooper going to boot camp class with me 2x/week since this whole thing happened. Over his time in boot camp, he had built up enough stamina to join me today. Off to stretch and ice and hoping that it feels awesome tonight so I can do another mile tomorrow morning! YAYA! |
|
| | Another mile for me. Can feel the heel tonight though. Grrrr. Ice and rest for me. SNAP. |
